17.14. Brake drums

To check

After dismantle it is necessary to clear and examine carefully brake drums on existence of cracks, scratches, deep flutes, and also to check deviations from a krutost (ovality) and tsilindrichnost (konusnost).


The brake drum with cracks is subject to replacement as does not provide safely сти the car. It is forbidden to make cracks on a drum. Small scratches and risks should be smoothed. In the presence of deep defects of a surface of a friction of a drum service life of blocks strongly reduces ся. In this case it is required to pierce a working surface of a drum. If blocks малоизношены, and on a surface of a friction of a drum are available small flutes, it is necessary to grind a drum a thin nazhdachny skin. To chisel a drum in this case it is not necessary. Complete removal of flutes from a surface of a drum and crests on slips can demand removal of too large number of a material. Meanwhile, earned extra to each other the drum and the blocks having small flutes and crests, provide quite satisfy telny operation of brake mechanisms. At replacement of blocks the drum having flutes, should be pierced. Otherwise will occur not only fast wear of new blocks, but also functioning of brake system will worsen.


Ovality and konusnost of a brake drum do not allow to adjust correctly brake mechanisms and cause the accelerated wear of details. Ovality of a brake drum can result also in fast and non-uniform wear of a protector of the tire and a pulsation of effort on a brake pedal when braking. At достиже on ovality and a konusnost the drum should be chiseled by scientific research institute of tolerances for restoration of the correct form. Ovality, a konusnost and wear of a brake drum is supervised by means of internal a micromeasure.
