7.2. Diagnostics of malfunctions of a spark plug

GENERAL INFORMATION

The worn-out or polluted candles can well idle the engine, but at increase in frequency of rotation of a shaft of the engine their work is broken. Unsatisfactory work of spark plugs is indicated by the increased fuel consumption, capacity loss by the engine, reduction of the maximum speed of the car, difficult start-up of the engine and other signs of abnormal operation of the engine. Spark plugs can fail because of a strong deposit, violation of a normal amount of a gap between electrodes or insulator destructions. Pollution of spark plugs because of intensive adjournment of a deposit occurs at long operation of the engine on low turns and at frequent short trips when the Engine, as a rule, does not manage to warm up ся to normal temperature. Emergence of a deposit is promoted by worn-out piston rings, bad work of system of the ignition, too rich fuel mix and the wrong selection of candles on kalilno му to number (too "cold" candles for this engine). The increase in a gap between electrodes after small run of the car testifies to engine operation on the forced modes or the wrong selection of candles for kalilny number (too ''hot" candles for this engine). Wear of an electrode can be also a consequence of an overheat of a candle because of leakage of hot gases through thinnesses in a carving (the candle is insufficiently tightened). Too poor fuel mix also promotes wear of electrodes. Destruction of an insulator can be a consequence of the wrong installation of a candle or careless handling at gap adjustment between electrodes, and also falling or blow. The crack of an insulator can not be shown at once, it becomes dirt appreciable after a while at hit in it. Usually the insulator bursts under the case of a candle and to notice a crack it is impossible.
